Certerra has been selected to provide comprehensive geotechnical engineering services for the University of California, Berkeley’s Clean Energy Campus Project. This $200M to $400M initiative will construct a 100 percent electrified and renewable energy microgrid capable of generating, distributing, and controlling electricity, reducing campus carbon emissions by approximately 85 percent. The landmark project seeks to demonstrate a replicable and scalable model for public institutions looking to enhance their energy independence and sustainability.

Certerra will deliver all required geotechnical services for this multi-year, phased buildout of state-of-the-art energy infrastructure. The project includes an electrified heating and cooling plant, a field of geothermal heat exchange bores, a 2-million-gallon thermal energy storage tank, photovoltaic arrays, battery storage, fuel cells, upgrades to underground distribution systems, and utility bridges.

“From addressing seismic risks to navigating active fault zones and implementing cutting-edge geothermal solutions, Certerra is well-equipped to help UC Berkeley realize its vision for a sustainable campus.”

Congratulations to the Certerra team on this unique and critical project!
